| 1910
US Census, Rosebud Township, Polk County, MN, recorded 10 May,
1910 Fred A. Carver, head of household; Age 44 [birth yr. would be 1865], M1 [first marriage], 8 yrs married; born in Maine; both parents born in Maine. Hancine, wife, age 25; M1 [first marriage]; 8 yrs married, born in Minnesota, both parents born in Denmark Aince C, daughter, age 7 [Inez] Vava F. daughter, age 4 [Viva] Susade F. daughter, age 2 [Sadie] Orins P. son, age 4/12 [Orison, 4 months old] Ore Phere, nephew, age 22, born in Maine, both parents born in Maine [From later data, this is probably the youngest son of John E. McPherson (aka Pherson in some Maine records), and Orel McPherson or Pherson - misspelled as Ore Phere - would be Fred's half-brother's son, thus related to Fred, and Fred's nephew. John was Margaret's son by her first marriage, and Orel was her grandson.] [Simon C. Rice was the enumerator of the 1910 US census for this household, and he is the one to be credited for abominable spelling!] 1920 US Census, Sletten Township, Polk County, Minnesota Carver, Fred A., Head of household, Age 55, Born in Maine, both parents born in Maine, Occupation: Farmer Hansena, Wife, Age 35, Born in Denmark, Mother Tongue: Danish Inez C., Age 17 Viva F., Age 13 Sadie F., Age 11 Orison P., Age 10 Kermit L., Age 7 Name Unknown, Female, Age 2/12 [Two months old, Maida Margaret] Death Certificate information on Inez from Polk County records, Crookston, Minnesota, provided by Idella Harriet Vennes (Anderson, Eck), oldest daughter of Inez. Aunt [Name Withheld] also said that Inez had had two previous pregnancies where the fetuses had died, Inez knew the fetuses were dead, but Inez had given birth to the dead fetuses before toxemia set in. This time the fetus had died inside of her at the beginning of the third trimester and didn't naturally abort..., and Inez died as a result of carrying a decomposing fetus in her womb. [Abortion was illegal in 1938 because of laws passed in the late 19th century in America. It never seems to have occurred to the doctor that taking an already dead and decomposing fetus out of a womb could hardly be considered "abortion."] The Thirteen Towns, Obituary [1938 - newspaper clippings given to me without a publication date listed]: Mrs. Carl Vennes Laid to Rest Mon. Mrs. Carl Vennes, who died on Thursday evening, May 26, was laid to rest in the St. Luke's cemetery on Monday afternoon, May 30, following services which were held at Our Savior's Lutheran church. Rev. Westermoe officiated at the rites, and pall bearers were Joe Thompson, Martin Balstad, Henry Stordahl, Andrew Marum, George Ous, and Grundy Sannes. Mrs. Vennes, who was only 35 at the time of her death, became seriously ill Wednesday, May 25, and was taken to the hospital at Fosston. She was operated on, on Thursday, and although she rallied from the operation, her system had become so badly poisoned, that she died in the evening. Inez Christine was born on August 27, 1902, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carver, at the farm home in Sletten Township. On June 1, 1922 she was married to Carl Vennes, and to this union were born five children. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, whose greatest joy was to care for her home and children. Mrs. Vennes leaves her husband, five children, [[Male, Living], 15, Idella, 13, Gordon, [Female, Living] and Kennard, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carver, two brothers, Orison and Kermit, and three sisters, Mrs. Albert Emerson, Mrs. Lloyd Fjerstad and Mrs. Reuben Johnson. The Thirteen Towns: CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our good friends and neighbors for the kindness shown us during the recent illness and death of our dear wife and mother. Also Rev. Westermoe for his kind and comforting words and Kathryn Westberg for the songs she sang. Carl Vennes and children. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When Carl died, [Names Withheld] got marriage data for Carl and Inez's wedding day from the Polk County Courthouse because no one knew the date of Carl and Inez's marriage. Obituary for Inez lists different marriage date (poor memory on Carl's part? Or did someone else give obituary info and give incorrect date for newspaper obituary? Date needs to be verified. | |||||||||||||
