Notes for Carrie Emily or Emelia (Karen Emilie) OLSDATTER (VIK)
Norwegian Patronymic Name: Carrie Olsdatter Vik (from Darlene McNamee).
Post-1917 spelling of Gaasvigen is Gåsvigen. The aa changed to å with the language changes.
[On the pre-1922 maps for Norway that I found online, Høland was spelled Höland. Norway sometimes used the Swedish spellings for the three extra vowels in their alphabet at one time, and often interchanged that with the Danish -Norwegian spellings. The modern spelling is Høland. Additionally, the parish (prestegjeld) of Høland is near the Swedish border in Akershus. The LDS Web site does not use any of the three extra vowels for the names or locations for any of the three Scandinavian languages, so the data on their web site has to be cross-referenced with pre- and post-1917 Norwegian spellings. Searches in those three countries require the keyboard settings on computers be set to use those languages so one can switch back and forth between American English and any of the three Scandinavian alphabets.]

Joyce Burnett Lang writes: "My grandmother's name in Norway was Karen Emilie Olesdatter..... Apparently her name was changed to Carrie Emelia Olson when she came to this country. The family lived in the Norwegian parish of Setskofgen, county of Akershus." The data Lang has was written on pieces of paper through the years, apparently by Carrie herself, since she has a lot of data about her Norwegian ancestors, and Lang took data straight from those pieces of paper. [Because of the correct Norwegian spellings and patronymic names, as well as dates, I was able to easily find the data online in Norway's Digitalarkivet web site and include information on Carrie's ancestors here.]
The Thirteen Towns, Looking Back, February 28, 1908:
Mrs. E.H. Carver, who had been here some days, was compelled to cut her visit short on account of a telephone message from her home at Cummings, N.D., informing her of the serious illness of Mr. Carver. She left for home Sat. night.
The Thirteen Towns, Looking Back, Ninety Years Ago, October 22, 1897
O.C. Wik, father of Mrs. E.H. Carver, died.

North Dakota became the 39th state on 2 Nov 1889, thus after the record of marriage for Eldon and Carrie.
