| Notes for Capt. Caleb CARVER | |||||||||||
| Early Marshfield, Massachusetts, Marriages online: http://www.rays-place.com/marrage/marshfield-ma.htm Caleb Carver Jr. & Abigail Dammond - Mar. 25, 1756 The Carver Family of New England, Clifford Nickels Carver, 1935, p. 100, mentions that Capt. Caleb & son Melzar were 'proscribed and banished.' He was quoting Sabine's Loyalists. Massachusetts Banishment Act of 1778 online lists both Caleb Carver and his son, Melzar Carver at web site belonging to R. Wallace Hale: http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/halew/Mass-Banishment-Act.html (It prints out to nine pages. Many towns and counties and locations in Maine are apparently named for people listed in the Massachusetts Banishment Act of 1778, since many seem to have gone to Maine when they were proscribed and banished.) Further Loyalist info: http://www.uelac.org/links.html Sabine's Loyalists, Fragments, transcribed by R. Wallace Hale, CD-ROM; available through his web site http://personal.nbnet.nb.ca/halew/ (this is the earlier two publications of Sabine's Loyalists, not the last reprint with added information that does not include a mention of Caleb and Melzar - this is a copy and paste from Hale's CD - the information in square brackets is additional data Hale found about Caleb): Carver. Of Massachusetts. Caleb and Melzer, of Marshfield, were proscribed and banished in 1778. The latter embarked at Boston with the Royal Army for Halifax, in 1776. Of Pennsylvania. Nathan, of Philadelphia, attainted of treason and estate confiscated. [Wright's 'Loyalists of New Brunswick,' lists Caleb Carver, of Massachusetts, a grantee at Parrtown. Bell's 'Early Loyalist Saint John,' indicates his family at New York consisted of a wife and eight children, all over ten years of age; arrived on the transport vessel 'Amity's Production,' without family. Caleb's Will, dated 14 May, 1798, at Springfield, Kings County, proved 15 May, 1827, names wife "Abigale," son "Melzor," other children. See Hale's 'Early New Brunswick Probate Records 1785-1835,' p. 73.] ??? Apparently Caleb (& Abigail) died at Springfield, Kings County, New Brunswick where his will was made; transcribed by R. Wallace Hale who published it in his book Early New Brunswick Probate Records 1785-1835. p 73. Provincial Archives of New Brunswick sent me a microfilm image of Caleb Carver's will (images of the entire two-page will are on this page which fills in other data in the transcription), as well as microfilm documents of two deeds where he's named, but the Provincial Archives could not find any record of death certificates for either Caleb or Abigail. Further research will be necessary to discover where Capt. Caleb Carver and his wife, Abigail, died, although it looks like it was probably in New Brunswick. However, I believe this is new information to U.S. researchers because I've yet to find any data online indicating anyone else has this information, and I've so far not found any information on any published Carver genealogies available to me that has published this data. | Marshfield Marriages online: http://www.rays-place.com/marrage/marshfield-ma.htm Caleb Carver Jr. & Abigail Dammond - Mar. 25, 1756 If Caleb's will is correct, at least three other children may need to be added to the list of children for Capt. Caleb and Abigail Damon. The four listed here are from information in The Carver Family of New England, by Clifford Nickels Carver, 1935 | |||||||||||
