Ole adopted the surname Vik when he came to this country.
Lang indicates Ole lived at Setskofgen, Holand, Akershus. Online maps indicate Setskog is both a small town and the name of the church in the town of Setskog. Høland is the prestegjeld, or parish, name, and Setskog is a local parish within the larger parish of Høland.
Aside note: Norwegian-English Dictionary, Einar Haugen, Ph.D., Editor-in-chief; University of Wisconsin Press, Madison, 1967, 1974. A "vik" is a "(small) bay, cove, inlet."
"Vik" is the root of the word "Viking."
The 'w' in the Norwegian alphabet is "double tvay" - thus the spellings of Vik and Wik are often used interchangeably - and, of course, as with most of the rest of the northern European languages, the 'w' is pronounced with a 'v' sound.
Most often the Scandinavians use K to spell any K sounds, not Ch. Christiansen or Kristiansen would be interchangeable spellings. Depending on the writer, both spellings of the patronymic surname would be found.
