Journeying Through Steve's Car Collection

Some of the rides that got me from there to here...

Home

This page is just for fun. Everyone needs a break from the monotony of work after all. Since all of my other sites are generally fun-filled and this is the only "all work - no play" site in my collection, I decided to have a little fun. Presenting... The virtual tour through my vehicle collection!

Toy Volkswagen (1973)

This is probably the car that started it for me. I was just three years old when I received this little toy from my folks. Just think... At the time it was a model of a relatively new car! Little did I know that one day I'd be cruising around in the real thing!

1967 Volkswagen Beetle

Here we go... I have somewhat of a fascination with older cars - not antiques of course - but just older, simpler vehicles. Driving a Classic 1967 Beetle is truly a lot of fun - unless it's in the middle of a Minnesota winter.

Eventually this first car was put out of commission when a drunk driver failed to notice I was stopped at a traffic signal.

1977 Ford F-250

Oh yes... The pickup truck. This li'l fella' was a real treat to drive. It was big and got about six miles per gallon - three miles on city streets. I guess it burned a certain amount of fuel per hour regardless of speed.

But wow. Could it ever handle payload!

1978 Mercury Marquis

The "Ford" days. Some people don't like Ford products. I have to admit that of all the cars I've owned I've had the least enjoyment from this one. It just did quirky things - like the headlight louvers wouldn't close properly. The dimmer switch hissed like a pressure-cooker. Not everything was bad about it though. It floated down the road nicely, and it was fast!

1979 Honda Civic 1200

This one is at the opposite end of the food chain! Sure, it's a Honda - so you know it didn't have any mechanical problems and it sipped fuel like a lawn mower. But true-to-form it was a horribly uncomfortable car (I'm 6'-2") and was no fun at all to drive.

To prove this, I drove it to Oregon and back in 1988.

1989 Geo Metro

I still own this car, actually. Everything prior to this one is long gone. Or actually... just parked at my folks' place. Dad likes to tinker with things - he has the rusted-out Volkswagen and the Honda torn apart - he's rebuilding them in his spare time. I need a hobby like that!
