The Thirteen Towns, Obituary, [published] Mar 5, 1981, p.11: Services held for Carl Vennes Funeral services for Carl Vennes were held Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Hope Lutheran Church. Rev. Arlen Hermodson, assisted by Jon Fredrickson, officiated and the Pederson-Hoilamen Funeral Home of Fosston was in charge of arrangements. Carl Vennes was born Aug. 30, 1893 to Jorgen and Ingeborg Vennes at McIntosh, MN. He attended school near his home. Mr. Vennes was united in marriage to Inez Carver June 7, 1922. They made their home and farmed south of McIntolsh. Inez passed away May 26, 1938. Mr. Vennes then worked as a carpenter throughout the United States and Alaska for several years. Carl Vennes was married to Amanda Johnson Aug. 25, 1944. They lived and worked in Duluth, Bemidji and St. Hilaire and after retiring they lived in the Fosston area. Amanda passed away Feb. 5, 1979. Mr. Vennes was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church. Carl Vennes passed awy [sic] Tuesday, Feb. 24, 1981 at the Fosston hospital at the age of 87 years, five months and 24 days. He had been a resident at the Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home of Erskine for the past 18 months. Surviving are four children [Male, Living] Vennes of Fosston, Mrs. Lorenzo (Idella) Eck of Mountain Iron, [Female, Living] of Ortonville and Kennard Vennes of Spokane, Wash., 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two step sons, Sidney Johnson of Fosston and Bob Johnson of Bemidji, also survive.
