Pat liked to color.
Pat was very good at coloring.
He used yellow.
He used blue.
He used green.
But His favorite colors were red and black.

 

Red was the color of bricks.
Have you ever seen a brick?
Some houses are made of brick.
Some big buildings are made of brick.
Pat’s daddy made buildings out of brick.

Pat’s daddy was making a
very big building out of brick.
He was using many bricks.
Between each brick
he was putting something black.
That is why Pat likes the color black.

Everybody was talking about the big building.
The big building scared Pat.
Something did not seem right about it.
He had heard his mom and dad talk.
But he just drew a picture of it.

Some people think they
can go to heaven in that big building.
Pat does not think so.
He just draws a picture of it
and colors it red and black.

That same day one of
Pat’s friends came over.
They were going to color
buildings in their coloring book.
But Pat could not understand him.
He talked funny.
Finally, he went home and
Pat felt very bad.
Pat felt like crying, too.

Pat heard his mom talk
to his dad about how unhappy God was.
God did not like the big building.
All the bricks and black stuff were bad.
Now Pat’s mom and dad
could not understand anyone.
Pat’s dad could not work anymore.
And Pat could not understand his friend
who he used to color with.

His friend moved somewhere.
Other people moved far away.
It was almost like they were
mad and running away.
Nobody could understand each other.
Someone said that if they could,
“they might be able to do anything.”
Maybe they wanted to be God.
Pat just wanted to color buildings
in his coloring book.

That was the day he lost his best friend.
Pat and his mom and dad moved, too.
Now they live by a lake and Pat’s
favorite color is blue.
Pat doesn’t like big brick buildings anymore.
But he does like to draw rainbows.
